Overview
Bring the heart of Italy into your own kitchen with this immersive Pasta-Making Workshop in Oakland, led by Chef Mat Wertlieb, a Culinary Institute of America graduate and Bay Area culinary veteran. Perfect for food lovers of all experience levels, this hands-on class will teach you the secrets of making fresh pasta from scratch—Tuscan-style ribbons, Sicilian-inspired shapes, and rich, comforting sauces that celebrate authentic regional flavors.
The workshop kicks off with a short lecture by Chef Mat on the day's menu and techniques, followed by small group cooking sessions where you’ll dive into the art of pasta-making. You’ll learn to knead dough, form classic shapes like orecchiette and tagliatelle, and create flavor-packed sauces from scratch. The workshop menu features prosciutto tortellini in brodo, mushroom carbonara, and pappardelle with pork sugo, among others—each dish designed to deepen your appreciation of Italy’s culinary traditions.
You'll also enjoy a snack at the start of class, and at the end, gather around to enjoy a shared dinner of the delicious dishes you’ve prepared. While you can’t take leftovers home (due to zoning laws), you’re welcome to eat as much as you like during the session!
